Telco CEO Afzal Abdul Rahim Was Arrested For Bribery

Afzal Abdul, the company’s CEO, was arrested on accusations of soliciting and accepting bribes totaling more than RM200,000 for a communications tower project worth almost RM50 million.

Rahim was caught after submitting his statement at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) Selangor headquarters in Shah Alam around 8 p.m. yesterday.

According to a source, the suspect is suspected of requesting and receiving payments from another company in April of last year. Datuk Azmi Alias, director of the Johor MACC, verified the suspect’s arrest in Selangor when contacted.

According to Malay Mail, the bribe was in the form of technical work related to constructing and restoring an RM50 million communications tower project.

The suspect was brought before Shah Alam Magistrate Mohamad Redza Azhar Rezali this morning for a remand order, which was granted. Today is the first day of the remand order, which will remain until Friday.

Abdul Rahim is accused of committing a crime for which the authorities also took him for investigation.

Rahim is involved with several telecommunications-related businesses, including data centers and submarine cable systems.
